Kenilworth couple celebrate marriage with friends and family a year to the day after Tier Three wedding
A Kenilworth couple have finally celebrated their wedding a year to the day after tying the knot.
Marie and Sid Scurfield held the wedding reception at Hogarths Hotel in Solihull on Friday, December 3 – the date of their first anniversary.
And the couple are currently celebrating a year of marriage on holiday in Cornwall where they had originally intended to honeymoon.
Having now been able to host their wedding breakfast, have their first dance and celebrate with more than just the 13 guests they were allowed at their wedding, Marie said she had no regrets about not postponing the original ceremony.
"Last year people told us to leave the wedding until we can do the whole thing, but getting married was so important to us so I am glad we did it then," she said.
"We always knew that we would have a reception at some point, so we had that to look forward to.
"We did what was important to us, the religious side was really important and we didn't miss out on that.
"And then we got to have the party later, and let's face it who gets to wear their wedding outfit twice?"
Sid and Marie got married on December 3 2020 at St Francis of Assisi Church on Warwick Road, three years and a day after they first met.
The wedding was followed by a cake cutting in the church and then prosecco and live music from a saxophonist in the rain in Abbey Fields.
And because of the tier system in place at the time the couple actually spent their honeymoon in the Maldives because they were not allowed to travel in the UK.
Marie added: "People who were there said they had been to lots of weddings which sort of blur into one.
"But they all said they will remember ours forever."
Their reception at Hogarths saw the same saxophonist play a set followed by a DJ and disco in the evening.
Sid even put the ribbons back on Marie's classic Ford Capri and they stopped across Kenilworth for a second set of photos.
And reflecting on their first year together they said they were loving married life.
"It has been really good, obviously everything has been stressful with Covid, but for us it has been such a lovely year."
Marie, who also turned 50 in 2021, has also been able to enjoy a postponed hen party whilst Sid has not arranged his stag do - "yet".
