The Kenilworth Christmas Light Switch on, which was supposed to take place tonight (November 26), has been cancelled.

Warwick District Council confirmed that the event has been cancelled due to the weather forecast.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather warning for high winds across the UK.

The cancellation of the 2021 light switch on means the event will not have taken place since 2019 unless the council rearranges for later this year.

WDC said it will give an update on new plans in the coming days.

The Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas Church will still stay open until 8pm.

A WDC statement said: "Warwick District Council and partners regret to announce that this evening's Christmas light switch-on events on Warwick Road and High Street in Kenilworth have been cancelled due to the weather forecast.

"High winds are already causing issues with the erection of stalls and marquees, and with safety being the council's main priority, the decision has been made to cancel the events.

"The council understands that residents will be disappointed, and will be providing further updates in the next few days regarding plans for Kenilworth's lights."
