The second Kenilworth Advent Calendar has 'gone green' with donations coming in from a number of horticultural businesses.

Smiths Garden Centre is the latest company to sponsor this year's fundraising initiative with a donation of £300 towards Kenilworth Rotary Club's costs of production. The Baginton company has been a generous supporter of many Rotary fundraisers in the past, not least providing the 14-foot Trees of Light in Talisman Square.

The fundraiser has also been given the prize of a garden plan from Breathe Green Spaces worth up to £300.

Breathe Green Spaces' Jenny Radford, a Royal Horticultural Society–qualified specialist, will transform your garden. Whether it's the size of an estate or an urban courtyard, a family garden or a newly built house, she will create a design to suit your own personal tastes and budget.

Or then again, if the outdoors is not for you, how about an Autopot four-pot watering system, worth over £100, for your greenhouse.

The Horticulture Company, Princes Drive, has donated the easily assembled system which includes a 47-litre reservoir that will last for days between refills.

Rotary is "sincerely grateful" to these and every other one of the 126 businesses which have donated to this fundraiser for local causes.

This year's calendar will feature an "extraordinary" photograph of the Northern Lights with Kenilworth Castle in the foreground taken by local landscape and wildlife photographer Nigel Wilkins.

As with last year, each calendar will have 24 numbered doors - one for each day of advent - with a list of five prize winners behind each door, each corresponding to one of 3,000 calendars sold.

Yet again local businesses have rallied to support the fundraising project, with prizes totalling some £6,000 now up for grabs.

All the money will go to Kenilworth causes, including Myton Hospices, The Talisman Theatre, the Waverley Centre, Compassionate Kenilworth and the Kenilworth Centre.

Winning numbers will be listed daily on the dedicated website, on the Kenilworth Nub News website, on the noticeboard in Talisman Square and on the Rotary club website.

Calendars will go on sale in the middle of October.
