A Kenilworth couple have taken over at the Wyandotte Inn - the first time either of them has run a pub.
Jon and Theresa Sabin took over at the Stoneleigh Road venue at the end of January, having already been regulars at the pub themselves.
A professional DJ, host and compere, Jon has hosted the pub's New Year's party on a number of occasions.
Previous landlords Catherine and Pete told him at the end of 2023 they would be moving on, with sparked the Sabin's into deciding to take on the Wyandotte themselves.
"Pete told me they might not be here come New Year's eve," Jon told Kenilworth Nub News.
"I told Theresa they were leaving and she said 'it's a shame we can't run a pub' - and I said 'do you want to'.
"She said yes, so we went for it!
"Two days later we met with the area manager at Martson's [pub owner] and that was it!"
From there Jon completed his training with Marston's on January 24, before the couple took over the keys the following day.
In the three weeks since they have been cleaning, tidying and giving the pub a touch up, with the outside having received a makeover.
They then officially marked the takeover with a party on Saturday (17 February) which Jon said was an "amazing" night.
"People have been fantastic," he added.
"We were locals anyway so we knew most of the people who come into the pub.
"Everyone has been really friendly and welcoming here.
"We are just adding to what was here and people are really supporting us."
Over the coming weeks the couple have plans to introduce bar snacks including pies, pasties, sausage rolls, samosa and sandwiches.
They even have a pizza oven coming all the way from Italy.
Events will also become a staple, with live music planned fortnightly either side of karaoke and disco nights once the new sound system is up and running.
And for Jon - who also works as a psychic and healer - he said things could not have worked out better timing wise.
"We have come in and even after three weeks it feels like we have been here forever," he said.
"It feels like it was meant to be.
"The universe threw this on our lap.
"I have been wanting for something later on in life - I'm 53 this year and I can't go travelling up and down the country forever.
"I needed something else eventually and the universe has provided it, so we took it!"
