Latest roadworks on the A46 for HS2 works are due to begin this weekend.

The high speed rail developer was forced to push its August closures to the autumn as it completes "final safety, central reservation and utility work".

All the road closures and reduced speed limits will be removed once the works are complete.

Works begin this weekend with an overnight closure of two lanes northbound between Thickthorn and Stoneleigh. This will run from 8pm on Friday 26 September to 6am the next day.

The southbound slip onto the A46 at the Stoneleigh junction and two lanes between Festival Island and Thickthorn will then be shut from 8pm Saturday 27 September to 6am the next day.

This will be followed by:

  • Saturday 4, Sunday 5, Saturday 18 and on Sunday 19 October 8pm to 6am, a full closure of the A46 between Festival Island and Thickthorn Island.
  • 8pm to 6am Monday 20 October, the closure of the southbound slip at Stoneleigh and two lanes south between Stoneleigh and Thickthorn.

"While we deliver the works there will be increased construction activity overnight, some additional noise and ongoing lane closures," HS2 said.

"Once complete all lanes of the A46 will be open.

"To ensure the safety of our workforce, we will be closing a section of the A46 from the Stivichall Interchange (Festival Island) to the Thickthorn Island (A452), and the southbound slip road at Stoneleigh."
