Historic steam engine returning to Warwickshire this May
By James Smith 10th May 2026
Warwickshire locals will be able to see a historic steam locomotive in action once again this May.
The Shakespeare Express returns to the county on May 17, heading from Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon.
As in previous trips, the steam special will pass through Hatton and Henley-in-Arden on its route through Warwickshire.
The next excursion is expected to be hauled by either Earl of Mount Edgcubme or 7029 Clun Castle.
Organisers Vintage Trains said: "Treat yourself to a First Class Sunday afternoon steam train adventure.
"Journey from Birmingham through the picturesque Warwickshire countryside to historic Stratford-upon-Avon in our elegant 1960s carriages. Travel in style aboard our vintage steam train at express speeds, following either the Shakespeare Line with its authentic Great Western Railway features or the Chiltern mainline.
"Your ticket includes a delicious afternoon tea served to your seat as you watch the countryside glide past your window, complete with tea and coffee throughout your journey.
"At Stratford-upon-Avon, enjoy an hour to watch your steam locomotive run around the train or browse our onboard shop for a memento of your day. Some weekends feature art exhibitions at the station."
The express is due to depart Birmingham Snow Hill at 2.07pm and reach Stratford at 3.10pm. It will then head north again at 4.13pm, reaching Birmingham at 5.12pm.
