Two cold stores can now be built outside a Kenilworth restaurant after planning permission was granted by Warwick District Council (WDC).

The local authority has approved the works for the former Turkish Kitchen on Warwick Road.

Plans state the two structures will be "insulated prefabricated cold storage units with metal external finish to match existing property" and will be built in the back garden.

Since first being submitted, the designs have changed slightly with the roof shape being altered to mirror that of the main building.

Signing off on the application, a council report said: "The amended proposal is considered to be acceptable from a design perspective, providing a subordinate addition that reflects the architectural character of the host property.

"The proposal is considered to have an acceptable impact on neighbouring amenity, subject to the imposition of a specific condition and will have an acceptable impact from a parking perspective.

"Therefore, the proposal is recommended for approval."

Before planning permission was granted, Kenilworth Town Council asked officers to ensure the plans do not compromise any parking rules.

Considering this, planners at WDC said: "The residential use above the restaurant is comprised of a four-bedroom residential flat, therefore meaning that three off-road parking will be required in order to be in accordance with the parking standards SPD [planning rules].

"Despite the addition of the proposed storage room, the existing rear yard will still be able to comfortably accommodate three vehicles and therefore the proposed development is considered to have an acceptable impact in relation to parking associated with the residential unit."

Having opened this spring, Turkish Kitchen closed suddenly in July.

Work is currently underway on site remodelling the unit.
