Council planners have given the green light for a 25 metre-high 5G mast in Kenilworth.

Freshwave Facilities Limited has been given prior approval for the structure at Kenilworth Golf Club on Crewe Lane to replace one which will be removed at Kenilworth Rugby Club on Glasshouse Lane.

Plans submitted to Warwick District Council show some 15 other locations in the area were considered for the mast, but all were discounted for various reasons.

Five members of the public objected to the application. Some raised concerns about its appearance, others said it was not needed.

Giving the go-ahead for the scheme, a council report said: "Having considered the siting and appearance of the mast, it is considered that it would not cause unacceptable harm to the character and appearance of the area and is therefore is acceptable.

"Officers consider that the applicant has successfully demonstrated that the proposed location of the mast apparatus is the one which results in the least visual harm to the surrounding area so far as practicable."
