Former winners recount 'honour' of winning Kenilworth Worthies as indie business awards return

Previous winners of an awards scheme aimed at supporting Kenilworth indies have spoken of the importance of the prizes.
The Kenilworth Worthies are returning for 2025 after a six-year hiatus, with organisers Kenilworth Chamber of Trade encouraging locals to get involved.
Residents have until September 10 to vote for their favourite Kenilworth businesses, with prizes to be given out in seven different categories.
And as time runs out to vote, previous winners have told Nub News what the awards meant to them.
"Winning the Worthies Award was an incredible honour," said Danny Fagan of DF Sports Coaching.
"So much of what we do at DF Sports is about creating opportunities and experiences for the children of Kenilworth, and to be recognised for that means a great deal.
"It's a privilege to give back to a town that has given me so much, and I'm so proud to see the difference our work is making in the community.
"It's exciting to see the awards are making a return."

Judy Brook of Kenilworth Books added: "Winning the Worthies 'Business of the Year' was a real honour for us.
"It felt like a celebration of everything Kenilworth Books stands for: community, creativity, and the joy of reading.
"The awards shone a light on the quiet magic of local businesses, and its return this year is a chance to champion those who make our town extraordinary."
The awards will be presented at an exclusive event at the Holiday Inn on November 6 and will see prizes handed out in the following categories:
- Start Up Business of the Year
- Community or Not For Profit Group of the Year
- Best 'Shop Front' Business of the Year
- Best 'Non-Shop Front' Business of the Year
- Customer Excellence Award
- Sustainable Business Of the Year
- The Worthies Award
The Worthies were officially re-launched earlier this year with an event at former winner Indian Edge.
Matt at Indian Edge explained: "The Worthies awards are a great way to celebrate and reward all the local businesses' efforts to stand out in a crowded marketplace.
"It encourages all businesses to try harder.
"Winning two consecutive years gave us a sense of accomplishment and confidence that we are doing the right things to improve our business.
"I am very happy to see the return of the Worthies awards after a long absence due to Covid restrictions."

Both Kenilworth Town Council and local MP Sir Jeremy Wright have backed the return of the awards, which form part of a wider programme of events run by the chamber.
Nominations close on September 10, and after that the top three businesses in each category will be interviewed by an independent panel of judges who will decide on each winner.
Before the deadline closes, chamber chair Rebecca Warwick added: "Votes are coming in everyday now, with lots of great businesses, and some 'Worthy' individuals, being nominated.
"I would encourage businesses to highlight it to their customers, and if people are voting, ask others if they agree with you on your category selection, to give your favourite a chance to be recognised!
"And remember, this is an opportunity to recognise that business who goes the extra mile, puts a smile on your face, puts in the work, or makes you feel valued.
"It's a great way to say thank you back, as it is a completely public vote at this stage, with the comments provided for the top three by volume used to make a decision.
"All businesses and individuals nominated will be notified that at least one person thought they are worthy, as I am sure they will be grateful to know."
