Young families' five-year wait for a Kenilworth park to be refurbished look set to come to an end next year following an announcement by local Liberal Democrat councillors.

Cllr Richard Dickson has been pressing for the overdue works at Glendale Avenue Park to get underway over the past few months, as the project was continually kicked down the road.

And now the town and district councillor has revealed a contractor has been appointed for the project, with the makeover due to be completed in the spring.

"Wouldn't it be wonderful if the smallest green space in Kenilworth was a place that had some new equipment to replace the old tired play area so that our young children have a safe, fun and accessible place to play?" a post of social media from the local Lib Dem group said.

"Especially when the biggest play area in Abbey Fields is currently in the middle of the swimming pools building site.

"Back in November 2018 Conservative councillors said Glendale Avenue Park would be refurbished by May 2019. It wasn't."

After pushes from Cllr Dickson, the formal tender process for a contractor was launched this summer.

The name of the contractor chosen has not been revealed.
