Bargain-hunters have been heading to Kenilworth's Wilko store where there are huge discounts to be had before the store closes.

Many of the shelves are already empty at the Station Road shop, where prices have been slashed by up to 50 per cent.

The local branch is set to shut over the coming weeks after a rescue deal to keep all 400 Wilko stores open could not be secured by administrators at PwC.

While PwC said all sites would close by mid-October, an official closure date for Kenilworth's is yet to be confirmed.

Pepco Group, which owns Poundland in the UK, has secured a deal to take over 71 Wilko stores and turn them into Poundland stores - but Kenilworth's branch is not among them.

B&M will also spend £13 million on a further 51 Wilko branches, which are not expected to run under the Wilko name. Details of which stores will be repurposed are yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, stores across the UK have already begun to shut their doors, with firm closure dates for over 100 shops already announced.

The Range has also secured a deal to acquire the Wilko Brand, Website and Intellectual Property - saving 36 jobs.

A notice in the shop's window from Wilko CEO Mark Jackson said: "I'd like to take this opportunity on behalf of the directors and the Wilkinson family to thank all of our customers, suppliers, partners and our hardworking team members across our stores, logistics and support centre who remained loyal to Wilko.

"We've all fought hard to keep this incredible business intact but most concede that time has run out, and now we must do what's best to preserve as many jobs as possible, for as long as possible, by working with our appointed administrators.

"It's been an honour to have worked alongside you all as we fought to realise and to maximise the significant opportunities that existed to re-establish a profitable Wilko."
