A Warwickshire teacher who collapsed on the way to work while drunk had been banned indefinitely.

Mark Baird, 36, was also found to have not told another school he had been sacked from his previous job.

Baird, who went on to work for Bilton Secondary School in Rugby, was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct following a hearing with the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) in April.

A report from the meeting said on 26 January 2022 he had attempted to attend 'school a' and collapsed while walking to work. Paramedics found he was under the influence of alcohol.

He was then suspended before being sacked in February 2022.

Then when applying for a new job at 'school b' he did not inform his new employers of the dismissal, with this only coming to light when the school was contacted during the TRA's investigation.

He was then let go from this position in December 2022.

"Whilst there is evidence that Mr Baird had some ability as an educator, the panel considered that the adverse public interest considerations above outweighed any interest in retaining Mr Baird in the profession," the report said.

Baird admitted the facts to the panel in advance, but did not attend saying he would "prefer that I'm just prohibited".

He said his career was "now in the bin" and he could not "punish himself anymore".

It was also noted he had now intention to teach again.
