Two new dropped curbs have been installed on a residential street in Kenilworth, to make crossing the road safer.

The works - carried out by Warwickshire County Council's minor works team - have taken place at the junction between Rounds Hill and Oaks Road.

Taking to social media, councillor for St John's ward Cllr Rik Spencer explained: "Back in October, I was walking to my local shops when I noticed a lady on a mobility scooter just ahead of me.

"She came to the junction between Rounds Hill and Oaks Road, I watched her cross…or should I say attempt to cross?

"While the mobility scooter dropped down the curb on one side, it couldn't climb the curb on the opposite side of the road.

"She proceeded to travel along Oaks Road, overtaking a parked car, and utilised a resident's drive access to get back on the pavement.

"Given I have lived in the area over 12 years, I'd never noticed that the pavement didn't have a dropped curb until that day.

"I'm really pleased to say, the minor works team at WCC have now implemented the detailed improvements following my instruction (and providing funding)."

Cllr Spencer said there were other road improvements across the area that need sorting, but said they are "never as straight forward" as you might think.
