A community transport scheme will be rolled out to help people get to one of the three vaccination hubs across Warwick district

Warwick District Council leader Cllr Andrew Day (Con, Bishop's Tachbrook) made the announcement during this week's full council meeting in a bid to ensure those who didn't have access to a car could get to the sites.

While the sites at Lisle Court Medical Centre in Brunswick Street, Leamington and the Rehab Hospital in Heathcote Lane, Warwick, are fairly accessible, the third hub is at the more remote Warwickshire Golf Club in Leek Wootton.

Cllr Day made a number of other announcements to the virtual meeting including one confirming a plan to proceed with the local elections on May 6. They were postponed last year due to the original coronavirus lockdown.

He explained: "Our elections team are working with Public Health England and the Electoral Commission to ensure that polling stations and the local council operate in a Covid-safe and compliant way.

"It is going to be a tough few months for everyone but I am confident that by continuing to pull together brighter days are ahead."

Earlier in the meeting he brought councillors up to date with plans for a combined South Warwickshire Local Plan in conjunction with Stratford District Council.

Cllr Day said: "In respect of the decision to develop this plan I can report that a report will be brought to our next executive in February on the governance arrangements to be put in place which will enable the joint cabinet and executive to consider specific matters relating to the development of this new plan.

"In the meantime and in consultation with my colleague group leaders, I've agreed the terms of reference and working arrangements of the South Warwickshire Plan Advisory Group which will be a joint member-led body with Stratford District Council."

Five councillors from each authority will sit on the group and Warwick District Council's five political groups will be represented through Cllr Alan Boad (Lib Dem, Leamington Lillington), Cllr Ian Davidson (Green, Leamington Brunswick), Cllr Robert Margrave (Whitnash Residents Association, Whitnash), Cllr Alan Rhead (Con, Budbrooke) and Cllr Jerry Weber (Lab, Leamington Clarendon).
