An infected tree on the edge of Kenilworth's Abbey Fields has been felled by council contractors this week.

Abbey Hill was temporarily closed on Tuesday (August 27) for the tree to be safely removed.

Kenilworth Town Council updated locals last week to say the tree would be felled.

The town council's update said the works were "due to a rapid decline noted in its vigour and the presence of Giant Polypore fungus".

"On the basis the tree will not recover, it will be removed for safety reasons," the update explained.
