Developer wants to add extra houses into new Kenilworth estate

A housing developer is looking to add six extra houses into a huge new housing estate under construction in Kenilworth.
Persimmon Homes has already been given detailed planning permission for all phases of the Thickthorn Development off Leamington Road, with many of the houses now built and occupied.
But now the developer has asked for permission to add a further five homes to the second phase of the development - which was due to only include some 143 dwellings.
"The proposed changes do not affect any road layouts and relate only to the reconfiguration of plots," an application to Warwick District Council said.
Persimmon said the number of affordable houses at 'Kenilworth Gate' will remain the same.
The housing developer was given outline permission for 550 homes and a primary school on the Leamington Road site in 2021.
Reserved matters applications - which deal with the designs of the houses and roads - have been signed off for all three phases of the development.
The application does include some discrepancy about the number of extra houses - in some places saying five extra houses and in others, six.
One resident on Glasshouse Lane has already objected to the extra plots saying: "Persimmon Homes should be grateful for the permission they have been granted.
"An additional six dwellings will mean even more overcrowding and is not needed.
"This is purely developer's greed."
Barwood Development Securities Ltd has also applied for planning permission for the development of six industrial units, which will form part of the 'employment land' earmarked for the Land at Thickthorn.
Town councillors have previously raised concerns that the whole development does not meet the 'Land East of Kenilworth Development Brief' - a major planning document designed to instruct building in the area.
