Developer launches fresh bid to cut down Kenilworth trees after council refusal

A housing developer has launched a fresh bid to chop down two more trees that the council previously said must not be touched.
Persimmon Homes has already been given permission to fell nine trees along Leamington Road at its Kenilworth Gate estate.
Warwick District Council (WDC) signed off on the works - but said two sycamore trees must remain in place - as the trees were deemed to be in poor health.
Persimmon has since started the felling, but has submitted another application to the local authority, stating the two remaining sycamores are also dying.
"We have started the tree work today [no date] on site at Kenilworth Gate for Charles Church to the specifications of what was granted on the application," the fresh plans said.
"However we wanted to just let you know that our climber climbed T2 which work was refused on to use as an anchor point to work on T1 and found that T2 was in a very bad way it is virtually dead with a huge cavity at the base and being as it is hanging over the carriageway and new houses we believe it is very dangerous and is a safety issue and you may want to take a look at it.
"T3 which was also refused work on is also on inspection in a very similar state."
The application was first sent to the council in May, however was delayed as the developer did not send over any photos of the trees for the council to assess.
WDC said the previous application did not "provide sufficient justification for removal" of the other two trees.
"While deadwood is present, this can be addressed through routine maintenance," the council said.
"Felling is considered an extreme and premature response."
The previous application looked at 18 trees in total, recommending 11 be felled.
