A lane remains closed on the M42 near Birmingham Airport and will do until this evening (May 15).

National Highways said the first lane will be shut between junctions six and seven following a collision this morning.

Traffic was originally held southbound on the motorway at around 8am following the incident.

Motorists were eventually released at around 9.20am with four miles of congestion reported.

But an update this afternoon said: "Lane 1one (of three) remains closed southbound on the M42 between J7 (M6) & J6 (Birmingham Airport).

"This is to allow for emergency barrier repairs following this mornings collision, the closure will remain in place into the evening.

"Delays of approx. 15 minutes on approach."
