Decision expected on speed hump to take new Kenilworth cycle path along busy road

A decision on whether to install a speed hump to carry a new cycle path along a busy Kenilworth road will be made next week.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is set to make a decision on the next section of cycle path along Glasshouse Lane, having already held a public consultation earlier this year.
The short section of path would cross Heyville Croft, which would have a speed hump installed on it to carry the “priority crossing” for cyclists and pedestrians.
The cycle path would run alongside the footpath.
“The proposed cycle route will make it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle for short local journeys and will also tackle congestion, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and support an increase in physical activity,” a WCC report said.
“Furthermore, the presence of the proposed road humps at the priority junctions of Glasshouse Lane/Aldridge Way and Heyville Croft/Glasshouse Lane would act as a visual and physical reminders for drivers to exercise caution and encourages them to slow down and maintain control of their vehicle to give priority to cyclists and pedestrians.
“This would reduce the risk of accidents and collisions between drivers and cyclists/drivers.”
A decision will be made by new portfolio holder for transport and planning, Cllr Nigel Golby on Monday 14 July.
WCC has also consulted residents on another section of the path further along Glasshouse Lane, at the junction with Stansfield Grove where a new roundabout will eventually be built.
