Covid-19 cases in Warwick District have continued to fall since peaking in mid July, although infection rates in Kenilworth are still significantly higher than they were at the end of June.

The area also remains above the national rolling average for infection rates (currently 376.5 per 100,000 people).

Official government data shows that in the seven days before July 23 the infection rate for Warwick district was 413.2 - cases had peaked in the area in the week before July 19 when the rate was at 612.2.

However in Kenilworth infection rates remain high:

- Kenilworth West: 483.3 per 100,000

- Kenilworth South: 378.2 per 100,000

- Kenilworth East: 448.5 per 100,000

All three areas have risen significantly since the end of June. In particular there has been a 157 per cent increase in the infection rate for Kenilworth East between June 23 and July 23.

The highest infection rates in the region are now in Witnash where the rate sits at 601.2.

But PM Boris Johnson has said people should not jump to "premature conclusions" yet and the current view is that this wave of infection is finely balanced, while under control, because of the levels of immunity as a result of the vaccination programme and the lower levels of mixing before July 19.

Health chiefs are still wary that much the higher levels of mixing of the last 10 days could work through to higher numbers of infections.
