Councillors have given the green light for a "fun, relaxed and responsible" adult entertainment show to be held at the NEC this September.

Maring Events Ltd has applied been granted a sex shop licence for the event by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), with councillors taking just five minutes to make a decision.

Plans submitted to the local authority say the 'Sexpo' event will bring up to 3,000 guests per day to the exhibition centre, with 100 exhibitors expected.

Similar licences have been granted in the past, although this is the first time Maring will host the event at the major exhibition centre.

“The previous application was in 2018, it was a different operator, but the application was made on a very similar basis as to how the exhibition would run, and the products that would be on sale," council officer Annie Bettison told last week's committee meeting.

"This particular operator has run a successful operation in London. I have spoken to the licensing manager for that authority and they said everything went smoothly."

No objections were raised to the application.

But the council did impose some 26 conditions on the licence, ensuring the event is restricted to over 18's only, and doors, windows and other openings at the venue are all screened
