Plans to install a safe crossing to Kenilworth Castle are currently waiting on English Heritage before they can move forward.
Kenilworth Town Council has been working on the major project to provide a pedestrian crossing across Castle Road for several months, having held a public consultation and agreed on a location for the link.
Castle operator, English Heritage has also been granted planning permission for works to create new paths to connect the crossing to the castle itself, but needs to finalise the designs.
Speaking at last week’s Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Alan Chalmers updated members: “We did ask the question [about a timetable]. We will need to chase that up.
“They [English Heritage] have got the money for it.
“Once they have got their side sorted, it will take a year for the work to happen.
“We are going to push English Heritage very hard now. Everything else is ready to go.”
The town council has also held a “really positive” meeting with Warwickshire County Council’s new portfolio holder for transport and planning, Cllr Jennifer Warren.
Cllr Chalmers continued: “She crossed the road to the castle, so she understands completely the problem.
“Everything is moving along well, we are just waiting on English Heritage to sort out their design for the paths, then it is all go.”
The crossing to the castle had been included as a priority in the neighbourhood plan approved in 2018.
