The district council has been given £1 million to help redevelop brownfield sites into houses.

The money from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is part of a £60 million pot which will help build 6,000 new homes nationwide.

Across the country nearly 100 regeneration projects will receive investment to bring derelict car parks, industrial sites and town centre buildings that have fallen into disrepair back to life.

Warwick District Council says it "warmly welcomes" the funding.

Portfolio holder for housing Cllr Paul Wightman said: "Securing this funding is a significant boost to our plans to extend and improve our housing stock, allowing us to unlock projects that will bring new affordable, high-quality, energy efficient homes to support the housing needs of our local communities."

Minister for housing and planning, Rachel Maclean MP added: "We know we need to build more homes, but this cannot come at the expense of concreting over our precious countryside. 

"That is why we are doing all we can to make sure we're making use of wasteland and unused brownfield land, so we can turn these eyesores into beautiful and thriving communities. 

"This is all part of our long-term plan for housing – making sure we deliver the homes we need across the country."
