Over £400,000 has been ring fenced by the county council to improve cycling routes to the north of Kenilworth.

Warwickshire County Council approved the funding on Friday (May 12), alongside seven other schemes totalling £2.056 million.

The money has been collected from housing developers in the area through section 106 agreements.

A council report said the funding in Kenilworth would be spent on improving connections from Hob Lane / Red Lane to the Kenilworth Greenway, and on upgrading active travel routes from Burton Green to the town centre.

The report did not give any specific details on the schemes, with designs and full costs to follow.

It said the money would be spent on building "missing links within Warwickshire's cycle networks and link new developments to key destinations such town centres, rail stations and employment/education centres".

"The council's cycling strategy aims to increase cycling in Warwickshire by improving the safety and quality of the cycling environment," the report added.

"The funding allocations outlined in this report will progress the delivery of safe off-road cycling routes which will enable more people to complete everyday journeys by cycle."

The plans were signed off by the portfolio holder for finance and property Cllr Peter Butlin.

Other schemes approved include in Ash Green, Rugby and Stratford-upon-Avon.
