The Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire, Philip Seccombe, has named Emma Bond MBE as his preferred candidate to become the next Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police.

Ms Bond is currently seconded to the National Police Chief's Council from Police Scotland, where she has served since 2022, most recently as an Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing.

Prior to this she had 23 years' experience of policing in Northern Ireland.

She was awarded an MBE for services to policing and the community in 2019.

The commissioner's office said her selection follows a "comprehensive recruitment process".

She will appear before the Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel for a confirmation hearing in public, expected to take place on 13 July.

The panel will review the selection process and consider the appointment before giving their view.

Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe said: "From the outset, it was important to me to identify a Chief Constable who not only has the leadership skills required for the role, but also the determination and judgement to meet the challenges facing Warwickshire.

"Throughout the assessment process, Emma stood out. She demonstrated clear leadership, a strong understanding of the demands of modern policing, and a commitment to delivering for the public.

"The interview panels all spoke highly of her and their feedback, alongside my own assessment, gives me confidence that Emma is well-placed to lead Warwickshire Police and to work with partners and communities across the county.

"Subject to Police and Crime Panel confirmation, I look forward to working with her to deliver an effective police service for Warwickshire and drive forward the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan."

If the Police and Crime Panel supports the Commissioner's preferred candidate, he will make a formal appointment, subject to vetting checks. A start date will be confirmed in due course.

In the interim, David Gardner will continue to lead the force as Acting Chief Constable.
