Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to a blaze at Park Hill Junior School in Kenilworth today after the roof of the building caught fire.

Children and staff at the school were evacuated and taken to Thorns Infant School for their own safety before the firefighters arrived at the scene.

The fire began at around 1.45pm this afternoon and the Fire Department were alerted immediately.

It took two fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire - believed to have been over the kitchen area, in just under half an hour.

Firefighters were at the scene in total for around 45 minutes.

Children were collected from the evacuation point at 3pm.

Parents have expressed their gratitude for the teachers and firefighters involved.

"Credit to them all, the children were being supervised and kept safe away from danger."
