The owner of a car wash company in Coventry has been forced to pay for rubbish fly-tipped at a farm near Crackley Woods to be removed.

Warwickshire Rural Crime Team interviewed the Spon End business owner after being called to the land by a local farmer.

Video footage shared by police shows the extent of the rubbish dumped in the field.

But following a short investigation by officers, the farmer received the money within 24 hours of reporting the crime.

A force statement said: "After securing several bits of evidence and investigation leads from the scene it clearly wasn't a 'waste' of Sgt Rawson's time.

"A car wash Company from Spon End, Coventry was traced as the source of the rubbish.

"The owner of the company was interviewed and after making some 'throw away' comments he admitted failing to keep records of waste disposal, contrary to Section 34 Environmental Protection Act 1990.

"Due to being in breach of this act the cost of clearance was paid by the suspect to the farmer within 24 hrs of being reported, as part of a formal community resolution process."

The spokesperson added: "Contrary to comments made in the media recently, our team is able to deal with all elements of rural crime simultaneously."
