It is just six weeks until this year's Kenilworth Advent Calendar goes on sale - and local businesses have already been rallying behind the community initiative.

Residents will find the Kenilworth Rotary Club sales stall in the middle of town during late October and all the way up until November 28.

The calendar will see 120 prizes drawn during December as part of the raffle.

These prizes are all sourced from local businesses and during April and May, Rotarians went to every part of Kenilworth asking for donations.

One place they went was Abbey End and "what a pleasant experience that was" - they said.

None of the businesses turned them away.

Aquarius Interiors offered to sponsor Rotary's production costs to the tune of £300 and every other business they approached offered a prize.

Raj Spice and the Sunam gave discount coupons and the Almanac and Lil Greens both gave vouchers enough to pay for a meal for two.

A World of Ceramic tiles donated a coupon for £100 off any purchase and so did Mercia Carpets.

And if you're looking for something you can use right away, what better than a squirrel-proof birdfeeder from Kenilworth Pet and Garden Supplies?

Kenilworth Pet and Garden Supplies has done business in Abbey End for 16 years, when Betty and her partner Les moved there from Talisman Square. Les died eight years ago, and Betty has run it on her own since then.

As the name suggests, her shop offers everything you'll need for your garden, including bird food and feeders, and your pets.

Betty is a staunch supporter of local causes and most recently featured prominently in saving the fish in Abbey Fields when the lake dried out last year.

This year's calendar will feature an "extraordinary" photograph of the Northern Lights with Kenilworth Castle in the foreground taken by local landscape and wildlife photographer Nigel Wilkins.

As with last year, each calendar will have 24 numbered doors - one for each day of advent - with a list of five prize winners behind each door, each corresponding to one of 3,000 calendars sold.

Yet again local businesses have rallied to support the fundraising project, with prizes totalling some £6,000 now up for grabs.
