Councillors have hailed the success of a new path which connects Kenilworth School to a new housing estate and stops students having to walk along a section of road with no pavement.

The new link to the Stoneleigh View housing estate officially opened earlier this month after the housing developer - Vistry Homes - completed the works which had been included in the planning permission for the development.

The path and gate to the school mean pupils have a quicker route onto the site and no longer have to walk along a section of grass verge along Glasshouse Lane or along Crewe Lane which also has no pavement.

A diagram showing the route of the new path has also been circulated.

Speaking on the opening of the link at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Zoe Leventhal said: "Through several meetings with Vistry [the developer], the headteacher, Alison Kennedy [council officer], we have established they have an obligation to provide the path and they have actually now done it.

"There is a path that has been provided, it has been opened and people are using it.

"Thanks to Cllr Dickson who has provided a really good diagram.

"Parents, teachers and students are using it.

"I have had comments this week that it is so much safer, people can avoid using a road where there is no pavement.

"It is a really positive step, there is lots more to do, but it is one tangible thing that has been achieved."

The path goes from Oakley Road to the rear of the school.

Works to improve the safety around Glasshouse Lane and the new school continue.
