South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group has offered reassurance to patients in Kenilworth who have had appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations cancelled, saying "they have not been missed"

Concern had been developing in Kenilworth for patients of the Abbey and Castle medical centres who had their appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations cancelled at the end of December.

Appointments had been cancelled due a non-delivery of vaccines.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News yesterday (January 11), one 90 year old resident said he had still not received a rearranged appointment nor any communication from the surgery, some two weeks after their original appointment had been cancelled.

Neither had an 88 year old who we also spoke to.

Both individuals were worried that they would now not be able to get a vaccination appointment, and that they were unable to contact anybody to arrange one themselves.

As the over 80's in the town are beginning to be vaccinated at the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club, and communication has been limited and in some places misleading, a number of elderly residents we have spoked to have raised concerns that they would not be contacted for an appointment.

However, a spokesperson from SWCCG spoke to Kenilworth Nub News to reassure these patients that appointments would soon be rearranged.

"In Kenilworth and Warwick where appointments were cancelled, they are being rebooked in this week.

"They [medical centres] will keep contacting and contacting patients until they get into contact and get booked it.

"They haven't been missed."

Dr David Spraggett, Chair of South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group has also said to Nub News "This is the largest vaccination programme the NHS has ever run, and, as with any programme there will be logistical challenges that need to be resolved.

"Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances outside of the practice's control, some vaccination clinics have had to be postponed. We apologise for any difficulties that this postponement may have caused to patients and the practice will be in touch to rebook all affected patients as soon as possible.

"Staff across all the GP practices in Warwickshire have been working really hard over the past weeks to deliver the vaccination to as many eligible people as possible and we are grateful to all our local residents for their support."

Patients are also being asked not to phone GP surgeries to book appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations. Appointments will be arranged by the surgeries contacting their patients directly.

The Warwickshire Golf Club is currently vaccinating patients registered at: Abbey Medical Centre, Avonside Health Centre, Castle Medical Centre, Chase Meadow Health Centre, Priory Medical Centre.

More information can be found on the CCG website.
