Kenilworth day centre praises 'tremendous' team of volunteers

It has been time to celebrate at Waverley over the past few days to mark National Volunteers Week.
The Waverley Road centre said it is "very grateful" for the support of its 20-strong volunteer team who take on a range of different roles including drivers, kitchen assistants, befrienders and trustees.
"We would like to acknowledge their tremendous gift of time which enables Waverley to provide transport to and from the centre for older people living in the CV8 area, to enjoy a home cooked nutritious two course meal and to have the opportunity to socialise, take part in activities and stay 'connected'," said new manager Kate Sweet.
"If you are interested in finding out more about Volunteering at Waverley then please call on 01926 852365 or email [email protected]
"We are actively looking right now for new volunteer drivers to join our team!"

Originally launched as a lunch club in the 1980's, Waverley has grown over the decades and is now a place where the elderly can come and relax, socialise with others, and even take part in a range of stimulating activities.
Open from mid-morning to 3.30pm Tuesday to Friday, the centre offers guests a warm welcome and an alternative for those who may otherwise be forced to stay at home alone for most of the week.
One of the "lovely" drivers at Waverley, Patrick Stapleton, penned the piece below about his experience of being a volunteer.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are my days
I get the chance to be my natural ways.
I arrive at nine, I'm always on time
Fetch my jacket from the rack to avoid an adverse traffic act.
Without a bother we get the gang on board
Making sure the engine is never floored.
The music is on, we have some fun
But never too loud to stun.
Where would I be without thee
Making perfect days for the elderly of Waverley?
