What does the new coronavirus tier system mean for Kenilworth?

During a briefing in the House of Commons this afternoon (Monday 12 October), the Prime Minister announced the introduction of a new three-tier coronavirus lockdown system that will see Kenilworth placed in the 'Medium' tier, whilst neighbours in Solihull will be placed in 'High'.

The vast majority of the nation, including Kenilworth, will be placed within tier one, the 'Medium' level which will see the current measures in place remain.

So, Kenilworth residents can still meet other households in private property as well as pubs and restaurants. However, face coverings still need to be worn in shops and eateries, the 'rule of six' still needs to be maintained, and pubs and restaurants will still have to close at 10pm.

Neighbours in Solihull will be under the 'High' risk tier which will prevent members of different households mixing indoors, whether in private property or in a hospitality setting. Members of different households can only meet outside where the threat of transmission is thought to be lower.

This would be the tier that Kenilworth would likely be placed in should Warwickshire's local measures be escalated.

Equally, some areas, including the Liverpool City Region, have been placed in the level above that, Tier Three - 'Very High' risk - which will involve the closing of pubs and bars.

New measures are likely to come into affect from Wednesday 14 October.
