Proposals for Warwick Road traffic calming measures released

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

Warwickshire County Council has released proposals that could see a 20mph speed limit imposed and speed bumps installed in Kenilworth's town centre.

The proposed 20mph speed zone would go along Warwick Road from the junction with Waverley Road up to the clock tower roundabout and onto a small section of both Borrowell Lane and Abbey End.

20mph limits would also apply to Harger Court and the road to the Abbey End Car Park.

Much of this area makes up the 20mph zone currently in place.

A full diagram of the proposed area can be seen below.

Raised speed tables are also proposed for Warwick Road. These are to be located at the junctions with Station Road, Barrow Road, and Randall Road.

Speed cushions and humps are also to be installed at various points along the road and around the clock tower roundabout.

Again, a full diagram of these can be seen below.

WCC has said "A 20mph speed limit zone is proposed for Kenilworth town centre to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The zone includes some physical features to help slow traffic in-line with the lower speed limit.

"The scheme involves the installation of three speed tables along Kenilworth Road*, two speed tables on Smalley Place and two speed tables on Abbey End.

"With five sets of speed cushions, and one single speed cushion on Kenilworth Road* to maintain low vehicle speeds along this section of road by the clock tower.

"The scheme will also help to improve the environment for residents, especially pedestrians and cyclists by restricting vehicle speeds and improving road safety."

Objections to the proposals can be made in writing until April 16 2021.

These should be addressed to Graham Stanley, Communities, PO Box 43, Shire Hall, Warwick, CV34 4SX, or sent by email to [email protected]

  • Where WCC has said 'Kenilworth Road' - this is assumed to be a mistake, instead supposed to read 'Warwick Road'.
