Preparations are now underway to create a comprehensive Wayfinding scheme for visitors and tourists to Royal Leamington Spa.

The project, led by Warwick District Council and supported by the Government's Local Growth Fund through the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) is a key part of an investment programme ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls and Para Bowls competitions taking place in Victoria Park.

In the coming months the Council's chosen contractor; wayfinding specialists Whybrow Pedrola will be working with local stakeholders to gain an understanding of how pedestrians and cyclists currently navigate the town.

They will then progress to put in place a new scheme alongside their signage partner Blaze Signs Ltd.

The Whybrow Pedrola team has an extensive national and international pedigree, having worked on prestigious visitor orientation projects including those at Tate Britain and Castle Howard.

The Council is confident that they will be able to bring their experience of providing instinctive and easily understandable interpretation to locations with a rich history and unique character to Royal Leamington Spa.

Warwick District Council's Portfolio Holder for Culture, Councillor Jan Metecki commented: "The new wayfinding scheme will not only improve and enhance the experience for competitors and spectators arriving in Royal Leamington Spa for the Games, but will also provide a lasting legacy, helping to put our beautiful town, where it belongs on the list of best places to visit in the UK."

Nick Abell, Chair of the CWLEP added: "This initiative will help visitors from across the world navigate their way through Royal Leamington Spa and enjoy the culture and history of the area as well as boost the local economy.

"By walking and cycling rather than using motorised transport, it will help to reduce carbon emissions so there will be further benefits for the wider community."

Work on the Wayfinding scheme will progress through 2021, with a target for completion by the end of the year.
