Fundraisers taking part in The Great Horses for Health Relay were welcomed to Kenilworth by the mayor this weekend.

The charity event, which started in Wentworth in May, has been making its way around the UK with three riders being welcomed to the Queen & Castle pub by Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Peter Jones on Sunday (August 1).

The Great Horses for Health Relay is a fundraising event which aims to raise the awareness of how horses can help with mental health and wellbeing whilst raising money for seven equine charities.

Every horse lover is invited to take part to carry a baton along the nationwide route. Anyone who has a love of equines and wants to highlight the positive effect a horse can have on mental health is encouraged to take part.

Cllr Jones was on hand to welcome riders Paddie on her horse Bonny, Louise on Dolly and Vanessa on Millie this weekend.

Horses4Health founder Sophie Gifford said: "We are grateful to the mayor for supporting our Great Horses for Health Relay. We are reaching half way with our relay around the UK and we have a growing support for the relay and the its aim to promote how horses can help our mental health and wellbeing."

West Midlands riders picked up the baton from the Wales region on Sunday and the baton is making its way via Kenilworth continuing its journey east across the Midlands and East Anglia in the coming weeks.

The 2021 Relay will come to an end in October in the South West region.
