Kenilworth Town Council has today (February 9) announced a councillor vacancy.

Following the resignation for Jack Worrall, a vacancy has opened in the St John's Ward.

Jack, a Liberal Democrat, had been the youngest town councillor elected in 40 years when he was made a councillor in 2019.

The vacancy will be filled by an election if 10 registered members of the electorate in the ward make a written request for an election to the Returning Officer, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa CV32 5HZ.

This must be done within 14 days of the date of notice (February 9), excluding weekends, bank holidays.

However an election cannot be held until 6 May 2021.

This is due to the fact that the UK Government has passed the Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus) Postponement of Elections and Referendums) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 and the Coronavirus Act 2020 which means that any election called would be postponed until at least May 6, as a result of the pandemic.

If an election is not called, then the posts will be filled by co-option.
