Members of the 4th Kenilworth Scout Group have this weekend unveiled a number of 'bug boxes' in Talisman Square.

The scouts were challenged by members of the Talisman Square gardeners group to design the bug boxes to add to the greenery and artwork around the square.

Following a Saturday morning of creativity, the boxes of all shapes and sizes have been built and now installed with the help of gardening volunteers.

The scouts will be keeping a close eye over the next few weeks and months to see if their bug boxes have any visitors.

The scouts were originally asked by the volunteers to make the boxes on May 10 before being lead on a nature walk through the woods near the Castle, and around Abbey Fields. Building the bug boxes has allowed them to continue to connect with local wildlife.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News, scout leader Caroline Farrell said: "This activity has helped the Scouts to consider their impact on the environment and how they can help to create habitats.

"It also allowed them to develop their woodworking skills whilst helping the community."

Last summer, planters were placed around the edge of the square by volunteers from local shops including The Orangery and Kenilworth Books. Art was also supplied by Kenilworth Arts Festival in partnership with students from Kenilworth School.

Since then a team of volunteers has worked throughout the seasons to keep Kenilworth's central shopping area pristine.
