Volunteers from 4th Kenilworth Scout Group have this year delivered over 9,000 cards to people of the town as not even Covid-19 restrictions could prevent the annual scout post from going ahead

4th Kenilworth Scout group announced at the beginning of December that their much-loved scout post would be going ahead this year, with collection points in Talisman Square, Farthing Gallery, GDT Automobiles, Leyes Lane Pharmacy, Kenilworth Books, Steve Crowe Butchers and All Saints Church in Leek Wootton

The scouts were charging just 25p per card, and over the two weeks of collections they estimate to have handled over 9,000 cards.

Final deliveries were made in the week leading up to Christmas, with 38 rounds being made on Sunday, December 20 alone.

Fears that the post would not be able to take place this year were thankfully put aside, and only cards addressed to Edinburgh and California are yet to reach their intended destinations.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News Nick Schofield, Group Scout Leader 4th Kenilworth Scout Group, said "As a team we are so glad that we've been well supported this year.

"Although we don't do an accurate count as there are so many cards, we estimate that we've processed 9,000 cards and all but a couple have now been delivered.

"This is a tradition dating back to 1982 - the group has delivered ever since – and we were determined that this Covid business wasn't going to stop us.

"We understand there are around 28 other Scout Groups in England who also provide charitable Christmas post but it seems that we are one of only two or three groups to have gone ahead this year.

"We had some doubts earlier this year as to whether we could go ahead but the Scouts Association kindly approved our Covid risk assessment in mid December. So we've been able to continue to provide this service to the local communities of Kenilworth and Leek Wootton."

Kenilworth 4th Scout Group have extended their thanks to everyone who supported and donated this December.
