Kenilworth planning roundup: 400 HS2 lorries, cycleway wait and new Kenilworth School

Here are the biggest planning stories from the last week in and around Kenilworth.
Safe cycling to new Kenilworth School
Two teenagers have presented a petition to Warwickshire County Council demanding better cycling provision for the new Kenilworth School.
Isadora McAinsh, 13, and George Bell, 14 started the 'Pedal to Protect' petition last December having realised during the pandemic how bad cycling routes in the town were.
Local councillors, families, headteacher Hayden Abbott and MP for Kenilworth and Southam Jeremy Wright joined the teenagers at Leyes Lane on Saturday to receive the petition.
Corridor between annexe and barn rejected
Plans to build an annexe linked to a barn via a corridor at a Beausale Farm have been rejected by Warwick District Council.
Officers said it would "constitute inappropriate development within the Green Belt".
The report added: "The proposed extension represents a 41 per cent increase over and above
the floor area of the original building. "In the opinion of the Local Planning Authority, the proposed development represents a disproportionate addition to the originalbuilding."
400 daily lorries through Balsall Common
Nearly 400 lorries could go straight through Balsall Common every day for HS2 works if plans are approved.
HS2 ltd has resubmitted plans to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council having originally had an application rejected on appeal last December.
The company has now suggested that a roundabout and a 20mph speed limit be introduced on Kelsey Lane and Windmill lane to make the route safer.
K2L could be another four years away
The leader of Warwickshire County Council has warned that the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycleway could be another four years away.
A number of compulsory purchase orders and a bridge across the River Avon at Chesford need to be completed before the 5km route can open.
K2L was expected to be started in 2022, but a planning application is yet to be submitted.
And Cllr Izzi Seccombe said "it certainly wont be tomorrow".
