Kenilworth Lions announce 'Support Charities Day' as Grand Show cancelled for second year in a row

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

Kenilworth Lions has today (March 8) announced that the 2021 Grand Show has had to be cancelled due to the current and ongoing Government restrictions regarding Covid-19.

However, in order to facilitate the fundraising that the group does for local charities and community groups, Kenilworth Lions will instead be hosting a 'Support Charities Day' in September.

Planned for Saturday, September 11 2021, the day will see up to 30 local charities and youth groups invited to attend to help with fundraising and raising local awareness.

The Support Charities Day will be held in the carpark at Talisman Square.

Kenilworth Lions public relations officer John Whitehouse has said: "We realise the implications of this for local charities, community and and youth organisations in Kenilworth. The need for them to raise much needed funds is even more critical now after three lockdowns.

"We are therefore pleased to confirm that Kenilworth Lions will be holding a 'Support the Charities Day' on Saturday 11 September 2021 on the Talisman Square car park, with the kind support of the landlords Workman LLP.

"30 local charities and youth groups will be invited to attend; and more details will follow nearer the event."

The Grand Show, which is hosted in Abbey Fields annually, was due to take place on June 8, however has had to be cancelled for the second year in a row due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Today's announcement comes just days after Kenilworth Lions has had to cancel its rearranged duck race.
