Kenilworth's closest hospital - Warwick Hospital - has announced the arrival of a new Children's Assessment Unit this weekend.

A purposely-built building has been delivered and placed outside the children's ward; full installation is expected to be finished by the end of December.

The purpose of the new unit to to allow to provide a designated area for assessment and treatment of children in urgent need, whilst allowing the hospital to effectively manage Covid-19 on site.

The new site has been financed by £2million in funding from NHS England, and is part of a much larger project by South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust to make additional space necessary in the current climate.

Glen Burley, Chief Executive at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust said on their website "It is great to see the Children's Assessment Unit in place at Warwick Hospital.

"Providing safe, effective care to patients is our main priority, so I am so delighted that we have been able to invest in facilities like this that will support our clinical teams to care for their patients in the most appropriate setting.

"It has already been a difficult year and the demands and challenges are set to continue throughout winter, but with developments like this and the incredibly hardworking and dedicated teams we have at the Trust, we are in a very strong position to cope with the increased demand and complexities Covid brings."
