A fire today at a property on Barrowfield Lane, Kenilworth has left an elderly gentleman "lucky to be alive."

Firefighters from Kenilworth and Leamington stations arrived at the property this afternoon (Monday) afternoon at 3.13pm, and dealt with the fire, which had started in the kitchen of the property.

The man inside the property was rescued by a friend, given oxygen by firefighters and then treated by paramedics after.

A spokesman from Kenilworth Fire Station said: "The resident was extremely lucky to get out of the property alive. There were no smoke alarms in the property, this would have given him early warning of the fire."

He has been found alternative accommodation by the Red Cross.
