Today Warwickshire District Council have published planned changes to Dog Control measures in council-operated parks and facilities.

The council have published the proposals for public feedback before they enter a public consultation, on the updating of their Dog Control Orders.

It is proposed that dogs are to be kept on leads at all times in Kenilworth Cemetery, as well as some of Abbey Fields.

Dogs will have to be kept on a lead on the north side of the park, encompassing the car park, open children's play area, and the swimming pool.

Controls will not apply to the area south of the Finham Brook, the perimeter of the lake, nor the open sloping area down from the high street.

It is also proposed that dogs will be kept on a lead at all times between March 1 and August 31 in Parliament Piece.

The council explains that this proposed change is because there are ground nesting birds in the area that are in red or amber conservation status, and that "disturbance from dogs during the breeding season could have a negative impact on breeding success."

It is also proposed that dogs will be completely excluded from any children's playing areas, paddling pools, bowling greens, tennis courts, or multi-use games areas.

Proposals also state that "no more than four dogs at a time should be exercised by a single person on any land to which the public have access in the Warwick district."

The changes would be accompanied by penalties of a £50 fine, that must be paid within 14 days, or risking prosecution.

The full list of affected areas in the district for Kenilworth include: Abbey Fields, Glendale Avenue Play Area, St John's Play Area, and Red Lane Children's play area.
