Kenilworth has been adorned with brand new Christmas illuminations as the broken lights in the High Street have been replaced.

Earlier this year, Kenilworth Town Council became aware that the Christmas Lights in the High Street had been damaged and were no longer working.

After discussions between the town council, Warwick District Council and the voluntary Kenilworth Christmas Illuminations Committee, the town council agreed to step in and contract a local firm, N S Booth Electrical, to remove and replace the lights.

This has been done over three days last week and the new lights will be in action from November 27.

The new lights are more energy-efficient LED ones as opposed to the old broken white bulbs.

They are placed safely in the trees and do not hang dangerously between them.

Kenilworth Town Council hope that residents and traders will continue to enjoy the tradition and welcoming feel of lights in the town's High Street.

The work leaves Kenilworth as the only town in the district with two Christmas lights displays, both largely funded by taxpayers' money.

The town council have said "we are grateful to the work of Kenilworth Illuminations Committee and for the support of local traders and organisations who also contribute to the ongoing costs, mainly via the advertising banners at either end of Warwick Road."
