Liberal Democrat councillors in Kenilworth have written to the leader of Warwickshire County Council to urge her not to forget the concerns of residents over the proposed safety scheme on Warwick Road.

Local councillors have stressed the importance of the consultationas a new county council is formed following Friday's election results.

WCC consulted residents over a potential 20mph speed limit, as well as new speed bumps and tables along Kenilworth's main thoroughfare in April this year.

Liberal Democrat Councillors in Kenilworth have written to Cllr Izzi Seccombe to remind her of the council's commitments to local residents.

Cllr Andrew Milton said: "With a new council forming it's important that these concerns don't get missed. During the consultation we heard from many local residents, particularly in the surrounding roads about their concerns about displaced traffic and the impact that this would have on their health, safety and quality of life.

"These concerns have been shared with the county council as part of the consultation process.

"As part of our response, Lib Dems put forward a clear framework for a proper travel strategy for the town that aims to understand the demands of through-traffic, commuter-traffic and journeys within the town to create a thought-out response rather than a series of temporary sticking plasters.

"We hope that the county council will take the concerns of residents seriously and use it as an opportunity to properly re-evaluate the role that private cars, public transport (including trains) and active travel play in our transport future."
